KNOWING IS NOT THE SAME AS DOING.

For a long time I drove a car that was costing me more than I admitted.

Not just money. Time. Energy. The particular stress of a vehicle that always had something wrong with it. I knew this. I had known it for a while. I had read about managing car costs, talked to people who had been through the same thing, understood exactly what was happening.

And I kept driving it.

Livingstone, June 2014. A familiar scene. It would be six more years before I did anything about it.

One afternoon I finally sat down and put the actual numbers on one page. Everything the car was taking from me, written out honestly in my journal.

I wrote the same line several times.

This car is chewing my money.

I acted on it. And things changed.

But here is the honest part. The numbers had not changed the day I wrote them. The situation had not changed. What I knew had not changed. I had been knowing it for longer than I wanted to admit.

The information was never the problem.

Most of us are not short of information. We know what the bank statement is telling us. We know what the doctor has been saying. We know what that habit is doing to us. We have read about it, followed people who have overcome it, consumed more than enough to understand it completely.

And yet.

Seeing something clearly is where it starts. But seeing is not arriving. The person who reads everything about fitness and never trains knows exactly as much as before they started reading. The bank statement does not improve because you understood it. The habit does not break because you recognised it.

Knowledge applied is what changes a life. Knowledge collected is just a heavier bag to carry.

What are you carrying that you already know what to do with?
